This space was founded simply on my passion for real food, nutrition, and a full life. Which then turned into the desire to share as much as I could about it all with a community of people who have or want to have those same passions. Here you will find deliciously healthy gluten free, dairy free, (& occasionally paleo) recipes. Creating recipes without these things can seem a bit overwhelming but I promise you it is SO simple and I'm here to the guess-work out of it for you!
ABOUT THE BROAD BEHIND THE BLOG
Hi friends, I'm Jess! Wife to my best friend, certified personal trainer & nutrition junkie. More times than not you can find me spoon-deep in a jar of nut butter. (It’s a problem & I’m okay with it.) As long as I can remember I’ve loved being in the kitchen. To me, there was no better way to show love for yourself and others than spending hours in the kitchen creating. The memories that come from warm shared meals with loved ones, the smell of fresh baked cookies around the holidays, or the feeling of flippin’ flap jacks on a Sunday morning in your pjs dancing around the kitchen like no one is watching (well hopefully no one is watching - i can’t dance.)
So, when my struggle with Hashimoto's & Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome began in 2014 and I was told to remove gluten & dairy from my diet, it felt like my whole world had been turned upside down. I felt completely lost in confusion of what to do, where to start, how to start… Until I woke up one day and decided I was ready to feel my best again. And I'd be damned if I was going to let a few bumps in the road of my health take my passion for being in the kitchen away from me.
I don’t know about you, but life is short and I sure as hell don’t want to wake up feeling deprived of ANYTHING. Through this journey I started to spend countless hours doing research to better my health and started creating different recipes simply from the desire to enjoy meals I loved! Only this time reinventing them to be gluten free and dairy free with whole, nutrient-dense ingredients.
Along the way, I am happy to say as of now my Hashimoto's is in remission & currently have no clinical signs of PCOS. Yes, my health is still a work in progress but I attribute my healing to living a whole foods lifestyle, eliminating stress from my life, and truly learning how to care for myself again. I'm not going to lie, changing my whole lifestyle was not something that happened over night & was undoubtedly hard at times. But holy shit was it worth it. I am the happiest & healthiest I have ever been and found my true passion in it all. That's why I am on a mission to show you that you too can enjoy the meals you LOVE, all the while nourishing your body, living a full life & feeling your best.
